AUW Laboratory School had a very full and engaging first term, marked by rich learning experiences and meaningful community activities. Throughout the term, the school assemblies commemorated a range of important national and international observances, including Victory Day, Children’s Day, the International Day of the Girl Child, the International Day to Protect Education from Attack, World Children’s Day, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, and Human Rights Day. These occasions provided valuable opportunities for students to reflect on global citizenship, equity, peace, and human rights.
In addition, we hosted a monthly Global Café, where students and staff came together to engage in thoughtful discussions on topics such as environmental sustainability, women’s empowerment, and peace initiatives. All students also actively participated in the School Assembly, our internal school governance body. This forum allows students and faculty to share their voices, collaborate on ideas, and work jointly to improve the school environment while supporting one another in their learning journeys.
During the term, students were encouraged to strive for excellence through a range of recognition initiatives, including the Excellent Character Award, the Honor Roll, and the Principal’s List. These awards celebrate both academic achievement and personal growth. We are pleased to share that the recipients of these awards will be announced on Thursday, November 18.
Looking ahead to next term, we have made a few minor adjustments to further enhance teaching and learning and to ensure that each child receives the best possible educational experience. Parent–teacher conferences will be held in February, providing you with an opportunity to discuss your child’s progress and development in greater detail.
As the holiday break approaches, we wish all our families a peaceful and restorative time together. We kindly ask that you encourage your child to read as much as possible during the break, as regular reading supports vocabulary development, comprehension, and word recognition skills. In addition, Grade 9 students are required to complete supplementary assignments designed to strengthen their subject knowledge and prepare them for their final assessments later in the year, as well as for their upcoming O Level examinations.
Report cards will be distributed on Thursday, December 18. On this final day of term, classes will end at 12:00 p.m. We wish you a wonderful holiday season and look forward to welcoming students back to school on Sunday, January 11.
